For an organisation which is a high-tech Medical Device scale-up backed by top-tier Venture Capitalist, we are currently looking for a Chief Operations Officer. Founded in 2016, this organisation offers groundbreaking photonics technology and has developed an Active Implantable Medical Device (AIMD). This AIMD would act as world’s first invisible sensor for people living with diabetes to address their need for accurate glucose monitoring. Their mission is to light up the life of millions of people living with diabetes through innovative medical technologies.

The organisation has demonstrated the concept and proven the accuracy of the measurement in recent human trials. To strengthen the current executive team and to continue to ramp-up production for high volumes, they are looking for an experienced Chief Operations Officer.


The organisation needs to transition from an R&D / clinical manufacturing environment towards a full-scale commercial manufacturing environment. It is your job to make that a reality. You will work in very close cooperation with the CEO and other executive officers and will be responsible for setting and driving the company vision and the operational strategy. Furthermore, you will:

  • Envision a strategy that will generate fully operational departments in supply chain, procurement, IT and manufacturing
  • Translate the above strategy in actionable goals
  • Foster a strong attitude of collaboration and high performance across all groups within the organisation
  • Play chess on four different levels (Board, Management, Suppliers, Customers)
  • Work on the on-time delivery of the planned quantities of devices at planned cost and quality
  • Generate or revise new or modified manufacturing, procurement, IT and supply chain processes
  • Create and monitor the annual budget to make sure that the agreed targets relative to growth and profitability are met
  • Ensure that ongoing technical support is supplied for all operational processes both internally and /or at CMO’s
  • Drive innovation and best practice to ensure consistency across the key areas of responsibility such as health, compliancy, quality centric thinking, environmental protection, operational excellence etc.


We are looking for an executive with the following profile:

  • Experience working in a complex Class III Medical Device environment OR
  • Experience in another highly regulated and technical business (not specifically related to this sector) where you have significantly scaled a complex manufacturing business from R&D to full commercial scale
  • A technical or scientific degree, such as an MSc or PhD. Ideally, you also have completed a Business Degree, such as an MBA or MSc in Management
  • 15 years of work experience related to manufacturing and operations positions
  • Openness to work in fast-paced environments
  • Experience in building, managing, and developing a high performing operations and manufacturing
