For a fast-growing and ambitious biotech for genetic modifiers of rare genetic diseases, we are currently looking for a Senior Scientist Assay Development to support both the target discovery and drug discovery team. You will be instrumental in systematically identifying genes that suppress the detrimental consequences of a disease-causing process, unlocking new biology on a daily basis, through the company’s own revolutionary target discovery platform. At this point in time, they have a small molecule in the immuno-oncology space in the lead and additional exciting programs in other indications are to follow suit.

In this exciting role, you will be responsible for setting up both known and innovative biochemical, cellular biological, and biophysical assays, in-house as well as externally with leading CROs. You will be responsible for enabling high-throughput compound screens for their drug discovery programs as well as certain aspects of the follow-up for the lead identification and optimisation programs. In addition, your knowledge and creativity will support the target discovery team in their quest for novel drug targets and their validation.

In your day-to-day you will:

  • Contribute to the target discovery and early drug discovery efforts by developing innovative assays
  • Be responsible for setting up and executing HTS campaigns and analysing the results as well as proposing the next steps, in collaboration with the medicinal chemistry experts
  • Develop assays that can help answer biological questions
  • Assist the target discovery team in enabling innovative new readouts for screening platforms
  • Manage contact with CROs
  • Generate regular reports on project progress and timelines
  • Generate figures, slide decks, and reports for internal and external use

As the ideal candidate you recognise yourself in the following:

  • PhD in a relevant field with 3+ additional years of work experience in a research environment (experience within the pharma or biotech industry is a plus)
  • Broad experience and proven creativity in assay development
  • A proven track record of success (for example as illustrated by a strong publication or patent record or a significant contribution to (pre)clinical success)
  • You like to be at the bench and like to do experiments through CROs

Regarding your personality you describe yourself as:

  • Tenacious, energetic and driven, self-motivated, and capable of setting your own targets and priorities
  • Having strong analytical and data management skills combined with a creative problem-solving mindset
  • Detail-oriented and having high experimental and scientific standards
  • Having a broad interest and flexibility to work on diverse topics relevant to human disease
  • You love to work in a fast-paced start-up, which means being flexible, being able to deal with uncertainty and changes of direction and work and thrive in a highly dynamic environment
  • All in all, a team player with excellent interpersonal and communication skills with a strong command of English, both written and spoken

The organisation can offer you:

  • Employment for 32-40 hours/week
  • A stimulating environment with the opportunity to be part of an enthusiastic team that together is building the company from the ground up
  • Attention for personal development
  • The possibility to contribute to the development of novel therapeutic products for patients
  • A competitive remuneration package, including sharing in the success of the company
