This role offers a unique opportunity to apply your technical expertise in a setting where science drives policy, industry innovation, and climate strategy. As Science Associate, you’ll be immersed in data, experimental design, and industry-wide research that has direct influence on European energy regulation and fuel technology standards. Your role evolves around the following: Lead and coordinate collaborative research across automotive fuels, powertrains, and emissions; Design and manage experimental studies on fuel composition, combustion behaviour, and pollutant output; Develop data-driven insights to support policy on decarbonisation and air quality; Oversee cross-functional research groups and harmonise outputs; Evaluate renewable and alternative fuel performance via life-cycle and Well-to-Wheels models; Draft and contribute to peer-reviewed publications and technical briefings with scientific rigour; Engage with CEN technical committees and EU policy working groups; Represent the research in industry-science platforms.

This position is ideal if you enjoy deep problem-solving, designing reproducible methodologies, and leading discussions where science forms the backbone of decision-making. Moreover, you bring the following: 

  • Academic training in (mechanical) engineering, fuels combustion, or similar;
  • Experience in fuels research, engine technology, or industrial R&D settings;
  • Demonstrated understanding of how fuel properties affect emissions and performance;
  • Familiarity with EU standards (e.g. EN 228/590, Euro 6/7), RED II/III, and GHG legislation;
  • Proficiency in statistical modelling, data interpretation, and system analysis;
  • Interest in alternative fuels: bio-based, e-fuels, hydrogen, and electrification impact;
  • Scientific curiosity, autonomy, and precision in technical reporting;
  • Strong written English communication skills (scientific and technical formats).
