Our client is a leading organisation in the field of discovery and development of innovative therapeutics based on the human microbiome. Using their own patented technology they have a strong candidate for Inflammatory Bowel Disease as their most advanced program. Currently they are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Associate Director or Director of Bioinformatics with preferentially a background in microbiome research. The successful candidate will lead bioinformatics efforts, and collaborate with cross-functional teams to drive microbiome-related projects.

As the experienced Bioinformatics professional we are looking for you will: - Develop necessary in silico approaches to connect microbial taxonomic signatures to functional signatures and disease context, including predictive modelling strategies allowing for relevant bacterial consortium design, optimization and evaluation. - Work closely with biologists, microbiologists, and project leaders to ensure relevant output of the data, support in interpretation of results, and contribute to novel research initiatives. In addition, connect to academic groups and/or potentially relevant partners in the field of bioinformatics to bring in innovation or to speed up project data and consortia delivery. - Lead and mentor a team of bioinformaticians (internal & external), providing guidance and support in their professional development. - Oversee and manage bioinformatics projects related to our portfolio, ensuring timely and successful completion. - Develop and implement computational tools and algorithms necessary to support the delivery of consortia for the different projects within the portfolio. Ensure a robust and efficient pipeline is developed. - Analyze and integrate large and complex datasets involving clinical and preclinical datasets, including metagenomic, metabolomic, transcriptomic and proteomic data. Represent the output in a clear and relevant format allowing for collaborative interpretation of the data. - Communicate findings and results to stakeholders through sound written reports, presentations, and publications. - Stay up-to-date with the latest developments in bioinformatics and microbiome research, applying new techniques and technologies to improve research methods. Database Management: Develop and maintain databases and software tools for storing, manipulating, and analyzing data. Grant Writing: Participate in grant proposals when necessary to secure funding for our research projects.

Wat jij mee brengt

Being the ideal candidate you will recognise yourself in the following

  • Ph.D. in Bioinformatics, Computational Biology, Microbiology, or a related field.

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in bioinformatics, preferentially in an industry setting and having experience in microbiome research is a plus.

  • Proficiency in programming languages such as Python, R, and others. Experience with high-throughput sequencing data and omics analysis. Experience with translating datasets into interpretable reports for other departments (biologists/ microbiologists). 

  • Proven experience in leading and managing teams.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
